Welcome!! We love that you’re a member of the Roy Hobbs Baseball Family!
Baseball is in our blood; and the infield dirt, the smell of the grass and the crack of the bat fuel us and drive us to consume more. More time on the field. More equipment. More news and stories. More – well, you get the idea. So, take a few minutes to discover all that’s new in YOUR family. And thanks for your time and patronage of Roy Hobbs
Baseball!
Donny Baseball: He loved his teammates and the game!
Roy Hobbs asked a number of his baseball colleagues for remembrances of Don for this Player Spotlight.

If you know of a player who should be “spotlighted” in our newsletter, send us the story and a photo and we’ll consider them for an upcoming issue.

NEW PLAYER CHECK IN PROCEDURES FOR THIS YEAR’S WORLD SERIES
PLEASE NOTE: There will be a couple significant changes to this year’s Player Check-In that will enable us to more smoothly and safely get our players through the gate. The latest blog by Tom contains more information so be sure to read it (above).
- Player Check In at PDC – there will be multiple tents set up in the parking lot with signage designating which teams will check in at which tent.
Please look for those signs to ID your team’s tent and get in the appropriate line. One player at a time at each tent/table; all other players should wait in line at the socially distance markers.
- We will NOT be requiring each player to have $1 when they check in; managers will be paying a set fee for their team upon their check in. Players should make arrangements to reimburse the manager if need be. Each player will still need a photo ID to check in.
- HOUSING FORMS – To save you time and to limit contact, we are asking ALL PLAYERS to complete the housing form (usually filled out when picking up Welcome Bags) by using the pdf provided HERE and bring it to the table at check-in.
- ALL PLAYERS AND GUESTS MUST HAVE A MASK IN THEIR POSSESSION AND AVAILABLE AT CHECK IN AND GATES OF ALL SITES.

STUDENT VOLUNTEERS ARE BACK FOR THIRD YEAR!
In case our players haven’t noticed, for the past two years Roy Hobbs Baseball has been proud to be able to contribute to a few of the local High School Clubs and Organizations by offering volunteer staffing in several areas of WS production – most notably at player check in on Saturdays and Sundays. These students represent a broad spectrum of interests at the High School level and come from different schools in Lee County. Look for them in their 2020 WS tee shirts and IDs at the check-in tables or helping out in other areas at PDC and say hello!
Past & present groups that have benefited by volunteering their time and efforts in making our players feel welcomed include: Estero HS Foreign Language Club, Dunbar HS Girls Basketball, Mariner HS Thespians, Estero HS AICE Student Union, Ft. Myers HS Deaf & Sign, and Estero HS Student Government and Model United Nations Club. We are grateful for their participation and hope to involve more schools and groups in future events.
GLENN MILLER HAS BEEN BLOGGING articles, thoughts, experiences and opinions since 2013. His archives are a gold mine for all things baseball at all levels. He’s currently keeping a Covid Diary. Many of us can relate. Read his blog posts current and past HERE>
And be on the lookout for Glenn at the RHWS as he tracks down stories for our Inside Pitch issues.

The crack of a bat; the smell of freshly mowed grass in the outfield; the pop of the ball in your glove. You found it again as an adult in Roy Hobbs Baseball. So if you know someone who’s still sitting in the stands get them back on the field. Send them our newsletter and tell them Roy has a spot on his roster.
