Scott Harris: ‘Speed Demon’

Scott Harris was on the Susquehanna University track team in the early 1970s.

Scott Harris of the Baltimore Orioles brings intangibles to baseball to go along with raw athleticism. Although many Roy Hobbs players focused on baseball in high school and college and have played for decades, Harris has been back playing for only a few years.

Roy Hobbs World Series #34, redeux

We anticipate a record number of teams this year, including selling out 2 or 3 weeks of the event.  Reservation invitations are being sent the week of April 17.

A litany of deadlines, plans & policies can be found at royhobbs.com on the CALENDAR page.

If a team new to Roy Hobbs wants and invitation/reservation form, please send an email request to teammatesupport@royhobbs.com.  There is a process to follow.

Note:  Most beaches are now open; however, lodging on islands is very, very limited still.  Click here for housing links.

Watch out for the 80s

The 2022 plan is to have a series of 3 exhibition games for players 79 and older during Week 5 (65s & 75s) will be incorporated into the 2023 event.

We will set up a sign-up for those players, divide the players in consultation with 75s managers who can assist in making it as even as possible; we plan to play games Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday mornings.  Seven innings or maybe just 5, limiting pitchers to 3 innings each to keep their 75s managers happy.

Roy Hobbs will supply jerseys & hats – Knights & Oilers, et al.  Charge will be $30 a
player to cover umpires, baseballs, hats to keep, etc.

 Hall of Fame

Nominations for the Class of 2023 for the Roy Hobbs Hall of Fame open on April 18.  You will find a link on the royhobbs.com landing page for the nomination form.

Please read it carefully and follow the
instructions.  Nominations that do not provide concrete examples of contributions to Roy Hobbs Baseball and only rely on platitudes will be tabled.  And please remember that ‘character’ is an important aspect within consideration.

Deadline for nominations is June 1.

2022 honorees Bruce Doney and Ambassador Jose Callaberos will be included in the 2023 ceremonies during the World Series.

Coming Events …

Peach State Classic: Roy Hobbs wants to encourage teams in the Southeast or with easy access to Atlanta to take advantage of the Peach State Classic Memorial Day tournament in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Men’s Baseball Association is the sponsoring body; the event has Roy Hobbs blessing and sanction.  Age groups of 30+, 43+, 53+ & 60+.

Sea Otter Festival: Roy Hobbs and Joel Weinstein’s Sea Otter organization in Monterey, California, are working on plans for holding the Sea Otter FestivalJuly 1-2-3 (Saturday-Sunday-Monday) for 45+ and 60+ divisions.  More details will be available on royhobbs.com landing page the first week of May.
