Hobbs veterans love baseball and books

NOTE: Profile stories that were scheduled to be published in the 2022 Roy Hobbs World Series program will be featured in the Bullpen Newsletter. This is the first of four of those profiles.

When they aren’t on the baseball diamond, you will most likely find Harvey Austin and Joel Weinstein with a book in their hands or listening to an audio book. Find out more about the fascination these two men have with books and their love of playing baseball.

RHWS Update & Refund Policy

The dates for 2023 are on royhobbs.com/world-series; we are following the same order of worship as 2022 — meaning no rearrangement of divisions.

Roy Hobbs has developed a refund policy for teams, locker room reservations and Free
Agents.  Click here for the details of that policy.

Hurricane Relief T-Shirt Program

Event T-shirts from the cancelled 2022 RHWS are available with all proceeds going to Hurricane Ian Relief efforts through the United Way of Lee County.  Here is the link to purchase the T-Shirts:  https://store.royhobbs.com/2022-rhws-hurricane-relief-t-shirt/  Details …

1.    Ordering is done thru Roy Hobbs/Kiama on-line store.
2.    Shirts are $31 ($33 for 3X).
3.    Add a Luggage tag for $5.
4.    Shipping within continental US included; it will be USPS, except for team orders.

How to Help

Recovery from Hurricane Ian is going to take quite some time in parts of Lee County.  Click here for a list of organizations involved in the recovery.  For those of you planning to come to Fort Myers to volunteer, United Way and Lee Gov can assist, and all of the food banks can use help.

Sunshine Classic

There will be 9 Sunshine Classic events from January 29 thru March 12.  Click here for dates.

Invitations will commence mid-November.  We will announce a date on royhobbs.com.

Invitations will go in 3 waves:  First to returning teams in good standing; second to new teams requesting invitations and third to teams from first wave requesting to attend in additional age divisions.

Roy Hobbs is applying for more dates to double up on existing age divisions, and we are looking for ways to incorporate 75s, 80s and women as well.

Notes:  1) Roster max is 16, including managers & coaches, so don’t ask; 2) there will be 2 60s divisions; 3) 65s & 70s again are 5-day events, and that fee will be slightly higher to cover the extra day in the Locker Room.
