Hobbs players help SWFL recover after Hurricane Ian

Volunteer efforts making a difference

It’s been two months since Hurricane Ian roared ashore into Lee County, killing dozens, destroying homes and businesses. A footnote to the tragedy was the cancellation of the 2022 Roy Hobbs World Series.

Roy Hobbs players from distant states followed developments and worried about friends in Southwest Florida. They read about and
viewed photos and video of the devastation wrought by the meteorological monster.

Now, many are rolling up their sleeves to help with the recovery. Instead of baseball bats they are swinging shovels and doing a variety of other things to help.

Sunshine Classic

Sunshine Classic free agent registration is open.  Here is the link:  https://mastermindsinc.wufoo.com/forms/z1eln8tk12353e8/

RH will be building free agent teams in Family Ties, 65s and either 55s or 50s, depending available players.

Moving forward, the Sunshine Classic event is filling up.

1.     Family Ties, 70s, 65s, 60.1 are full.
2.     There is one team slot available in 55s and 50s plus one Free Agent team to fill those          divisions.
3.     45s has 10 teams but we can take 2 more to make it even.
4.     One slot is open in 35s.
5.     The 60.2 division can take 4-6 more teams.

RH is working with 75s teams to add a 75s division and 80s exhibition to the Sunshine Classic.  Dates are TBD as of now; RH will be contacting 75s managers to come up with a final plan in mid-December.

HURRICANE RELIEF PROGRAM

The RH hurricane relief T-shirt program resulted in $4,120 being donated to United Way of Lee County.

Thank you to all who participated.

The player spotlight in this newsletter focused on players volunteering to help with relief efforts.  RH would like to know if there are others who took the time to help with cleanup after Hurricane Ian.  Please send an email to tg@royhobbs.com so that RH might recognize those who have given their time and energy to assist our recovery.

RHWS 2023

Roy Hobbs is deeply appreciative of the 80 teams that rolled their 2022 fees over to 2023, so we have a good start on building the 2023 field of teams.  Those commitments were a big help in bridging our stability from 2022 to 2023.  Thank you!

All refunds for teams, locker room and free agents were mailed in November, as promised.

Invitations for the 2023 event will be sent in April as we start building the 2023 event.
