Something to behold: One man’s baseball love affair 

Franz Strassman lives in Boston where he’s a policeman. When he not protecting the citizens of his fine city, Strassman is most likely going to be on a baseball diamond, playing for multiple teams and  showing off his amazing skills as a hitter and a fielder.

It’s almost summer and that means the official countdown to the 2022 Roy Hobbs World Series has started!. We are on track to set another record for number of teams participating and Tom is “Gobsmacked.”

Roy Hobbs World Series #34

Planning for the 2022 Roy Hobbs World Series is well underway, and already more than 280 teams have completed reservation forms to date, including a sellout in Week 4 (60s & 70s), now waitlisted, while we work on the scheduling challenge posed in Week 4. (More on that subject in Tom Giffen’s latest May 19 Hobbs Blog.)

reservation form, please send an email to teammatesupport@royhobbs.com.

Next steps in the process, notifications to be emailed:

* Team and player registration will begin in Late June.

*  Practice Field forms will be distributed in early July.

* Locker room data will be supplied in mid-July.

* Free agent registration forms will be available no later than July 15.

* Final invoices will be emailed no later than the week of July 25, if not
earlier.

*  Payment deadline to get the $500 RHWS discount is August 26 – that is a hard and fast date.

Watch out for the 80s

Roy Hobbs plans a series of 3 exhibition games for players 79 and older during Week 5 (65s & 75s) of the 2022 event.  Looking at 2021’s birthdates, we know there are enough players for 2 teams.

We will set up a sign-up for those players, divide the players in consultation with 75s managers who can assist in making it as even as possible, and play games
Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday mornings.  Seven innings or maybe just 5, limiting pitchers to 3 innings each to keep their 75s managers happy.

Roy Hobbs will supply jerseys & hats – Knights & Oilers.  Charge will be $15 a player to cover umpires, baseballs, hats to keep, etc.  Tommy Faherty has volunteered to manage 1 team, so we will be looking for a second stalwart soul to head the other.

Hall of Fame

Nominations for the Class of 2022 for the Roy Hobbs Hall of Fame are open.  You will find a link on the royhobbs.com landing page for the nomination form. 

Please read it carefully and follow the instructions.  Nominations that do not provide concrete examples of contributions to Roy Hobbs Baseball and only rely on platitudes will be tabled.  And please remember that ‘character’ is an important aspect within consideration.

Deadline for nominations is June 15.

Sunshine Classic

The 2022 Sunshine Classic is history.  Click here to go to the Roy Hobbs website page where the top finishers in each division are posted.

We hope to have dates for the 2023 event no later than September … it will be announced on royhobbs.com landing page.
