Roy Hobbs’ Sunshine Classic

Roy Hobbs Sunshine Classic – About

About the 2024 Sunshine Classic

The Roy Hobbs Sunshine Classic is a series of 4- or 5-day age-group specific adult baseball events, held in Fort Myers at the Player Development Complex during February and March.

2024 dates for 10 separate events are January 28 thru March 17.

The Sunshine Classic is an event that focuses on adults playing baseball in sunny SW Florida in the dead of winter and early spring. It’s about a celebration of being able to play ball, re-unite with friends and perhaps get ready for the coming summer season.

It is unique for any number of reasons.

First it is a full locker room event, with full amenities similar to what professional teams do during spring training. And … 5 major-league quality diamonds are right outside the Clubhouse doors!

Second, it is a non-championship event with a 6-game guarantee, playing one afternoon game the first day, double-headers on days 2 & 3, and a single game on Day 4 — that game matches teams with similar records who have not played each other, for bragging rights, so to speak. Please note that the 75s, 70s and 65s events will be 6 games over 5 days, including 1 double-header.

Third, the event is invitational.

Teams must be in good standing with Roy Hobbs to receive an invitation. For new teams to get on the list for an invitation, send an email to … We are limited to 10-14 teams per division due to field availability and locker room space. The divisions are:  Family Ties, 35+, 45+, 50+ 55+, 60+, 60+ 2, 65+, 70+ and 75+.

Roster maximum is 16, including coaches and managers.

Fees for 2024 are $3700 for 4-day events, $3950 for 5-day events and the $400 discount for early payment will still apply.  A $500 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a reservation, there is a $17 processing fee, and teams are required to supply a certificate of insurance (COI) or purchase the event policy for $265.

Fourth, a hot lunch is served each day, ranging from sandwiches to burgers to BBQ chicken and salad.

Fifth, Roy Hobbs is committed to free agent teams in each division as possible — in 2024, if RH can form teams at least 4 weeks ahead of each division starting, RH will save a spot for them. Many players get picked up by set teams; however, we try to reserve a spot in the field for our free agents … because this is all about playing baseball.  Winning is nice, but playing is better.

Yes, it is a unique event, and it has sold out each of the last 5 years and continues to go as we work with our Lee County hosts to provide more dates.
